Catching up with Lilo Guash

December’s Fat Self-Care Club guest was Lilo @tropicannajuice! Lo has worked in the Cannabis industry for a long time. They discovered the power of cannabis during a dark time in their life after being seriously injured. As they were recovering, they noticed that weed felt like a miracle drug for them. Their body felt better and they sort of went all in on cannabis. Today they are transitioning out of the cannabis field into their new magical career as a professional Roller skate instructor. Lo shared a ton of amazing cannabis knowledge and here were some of my favorite takeaways:

  • Fun Fact: “Our body has a natural endocannabinoid system throughout our entire body. That's why we are so readily available to cannabis. And as people who are in fat bodies, we actually hold cannabis a lot more in our bodies because weed loves fat.” - Lo

  • Smoking isn’t your only option when working with cannabis. Many people will expect they will only be smoking a joint or eating an edible, however, there are a ton of ways to consume cannabis.

    • Tinctures can be taken directly under the tongue or in a beverage

    • Topicals and lotions can be applied like lotion or sunscreen and can help with pain management for sore muscles (high desert pure lotion is a great product) - Not psychoactive

    • Pet products for reducing anxiety

    • Cooking oils

    • Skin care + Hair oils

    • Fizzy Waters + Beverages

Picking a type of Cannabis: Play with it! Lo invited us to mix up multiple strains to make new kinds of bowls or joints if you are experimenting with smoking flower

  • Indica: People say “in da couch” its a more full body sleepy super chill high

  • Sativa: More uplifting, a great daytime high (we don’t have fun saying for Sativa lol)
**Sativa can be headier so if you have a lot of anxiety, salivas can induce that even more**

  • Hybrid: A mix of both, usually a budtender can let you know if it leans more toward Sativa or Indica at the dispensary

  • CBG cannabinoid can act like ibuprofen in our body

  • CBN cannabinoid can act like melatonin in our body

Tincture options: Typically put under your tongue

  • Alcohol-based (typically green and taste weedier)

  • Coconut oil based (can be mixed with essential oils)

  • Syrups (not technically a tincture or edible but it is a liquid)

***Wild Tip: Tinctures / Concentrates are already activated so you can…

  • Make edibles! (Put a gram of cannabis concentrate in a stick of butter that you melt on the stove because the weed is already decarboxylated easy more affordable edible option!)

  • Make your own lotion! (Mix a coconut oil-based tincture with a lotion of your choice.

We had such an amazing time talking with Lilo about all of the ways to incorporate cannabis into your fat self-care routine. Of course, if you want more of the juicy details, you will have to join Fat Self-Care Club
